Young Professionals Swing their Way to Success

Golf has always been a game used to mix business and pleasure. This year, young professionals can get a fresh introduction to the game and its benefits in regards to networking with the Summer Golf Corporate Challenge at Emerald Bay in Destin.

Young Professionals at the Beach along with Walton County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a networking, summer corporate challenge. They have asked companies to put together a two man team. Teams can play at 4:30 p.m. every other Wednesday starting June 15 and lasting until the middle of August. Participants will have the opportunity to play nine-hole golf, meet other professionals, and get fed.

It's $30 per man to play. There are chances to win prizes as there will be a draw every Monday by the Golf Director. The more you play, the more likely you are to win one of the top three prizes. First place receives two, three-night stays with Southern Resorts Vacation Rentals, two free rounds of Golf at Emerald Bay, a trophy and champs T-Shirts. Second place will receive two, two night-stays with Southern Resorts Vacation Rental and a trophy, and third place will receive a trophy.

Richard Lamar, operation manager for Southern Vacation Rentals, is involved with YP at the Beach, and is looking forward to the upcoming event.

"I think it's a great networking opportunity," he said. "We're offering a different avenue to engage those involved. It's a time to meet new people."

Jamie McIntosh, president of YP at the Beach, says they host the event because, "it's a way for us to provide a venue for young professionals in the area to network and grow professionally.

McIntosh, 30, says that they got the idea two years ago when they were looking for networking ideas.

"We think it is a noninvasive way of meeting people," he said.

For more information about how to sign up, email Richard Lamar at rlamar@southernresorts.com.

Wine Tastings, Laughs and New Friends at YP Social in March

YP's wine tasting hosted the very first event on Cuvee Bistro's new outdoor patio on March 15th. We had a great turn out of existing and new members who socialized over a tasting of four fine wines. The weather was a perfect 75 degrees and the appetizers provided were a delicious creation of Chef Creehan and his restaurant staff. It was so fun to walk around and listen to the networking that was going on between attendees - a clear sign of the success that YP has already had and what the future has in store for us. If you were not able to attend then we look forward to seeing you at our May social. Check out our YP @ the beach facebook for additional photos from this great social event.

Northwest Florida State College Professional Development Seminar (February 16th)

For those of you that could not make the half day seminar at NWFSC back on February 16th, you missed a great afternoon. Catered food was provided for the participants which went a long way to fuel the high energy levels during the training. Both Dr. David Schjott and Professor Ronnie Stanley were highly engaged with the YP’s in attendance, and the topics were custom tailored to the participants in the class. Dr. David Schjott taught on how to deal with difficult people in the workplace, and Professor Ronnie Stanley dissected the art of public speaking so well that all participants were looking forward to the next presentation or speech they were to do! Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and was looking forward to the next seminar put on by YP @ The Beach and Northwest Florida State College. Make sure to watch YP’s emails, Facebook, and blog for our upcoming events!

A special thank you to Julie Cotton at Northwest Florida State College for making the arrangements for this great event!
